Welcome

Where The Wild Things Are is a young company driven by a freshness of approach, new design and a love of beauty. We create artefacts for the home and garden. Inspiration comes from the irregular shapes and unusual textures found in nature. Finding art in imperfection and subsequent joy in its endless variety is the inspiration driving the creative process.

Driftwood Furniture

Driftwood gifts can be obtained either in store at the shop in worden park near to the cafe and arts centre or online via the online shop. John Dibble. Natural and re-cycled gifts are available twenty four hours a day from the ecommerce shop.

Driftwood Benches

John spends many hours sculpting and designing the driftwood benches and other furniture in order to bring out the natural rustic qualities of the wood. Gifts can be made from all types of reclaimed wood from broken ships beams to fossilised trees. Where the wild things are is a store that sells a variety of gifts from driftwood lamps to driftwood mirrors and candle stands.

Carved Furniture

Carved drift wood furniture is tremendously weatherproof and may often outlast its owner if treated properly with teak oil. As these products are handmade furniture they need to be maintained and treated with care. Click here for more details of carved furniture.

Sculpture Furniture

The natural material particularly lends itself to the sculptures of outdoor furniture such as benches and chairs. Drift wood is particularly flexible and strong and is the ultimate in ready weathered furniture. All furniture is hand carved in sympathy with the natural grain and qualities of the wood. Rustic handmade furniture is very popular in houses that are reducing their carbon footprint. All the materials that John uses are re-cycled and one hundred per cent natural. Driftwood chairs and tables are treated with teak oil in order to withstand the elements.

Carved Furniture

A bench was designed as a commission made of sycamore, red pine and beech. Found driftwood pine forms the back rest and front leg. The seat is a slice of seasoned sycamore trunk from the Lake District, with uprights made of beech. Unusual and eclectic mix of woods but complementary in colour, tone and texture. Made to last and can be reproduced in a variety of dimensions. The heart emblem is a tradition in English furniture and adds to the quirkiness of the design. The bench pictured measures approximately 2000 mm long x 450 mm high x 400 mm deep. The unusual and original design/dimensions establish this bench as an architectural garden feature and it sits beautifully when free standing in it's own space.

Driftwood Mirror

Just finished and newly available for sale. It is visually very striking and is a collage of found drift woods; cherished and celebrated for their sculptural and textual beauty. Worked into a mirror to produce a totally unique visual arrangement. It is a great way to recycle discarded wood which has been so well preserved and weathered by the natural forces of wind and water. This mirror measures approximately 750 mm height x 650 mm width x 30 mm depth.
