Eulogised by poets and musicians down through the ages, the Nightingale’s voice is a thing of legend. A visitor to our shores in ever-decreasing numbers from its African wintering grounds and confined to a few fragments of suitable habitat in the South, these days the Nightingale’s song is heard only by a fortunate few. Through many hours spent searching for these birds in their favoured habitat of dense thorny scrub I have managed to locate a number of territories in Sussex and invite a few guests each April and May to join me in hushed appreciation of both the birds and the fascinating landscapes they inhabit.

The Sunday afternoon sessions start at 2.30pm and finish around 6.30pm. Perfect for a post-Sunday lunch ramble. In that time, we cover around eight kilometres of walking through wonderful ancient woodlands, old meadows, riversides and dense thorny scrubland. We start and finish at a lovely old country pub where Sunday lunch can be taken before the walk and refreshments afterwards.

We’ll come across lots of other wildlife along the way such as Primroses, Early Purple Orchids and Wood Anemones, Green Hairstreak, Brimstone and Speckled Wood butterflies, Badger setts, Roe and Fallow Deer and a host of other songbirds such as Bullfinch, Firecrest, Cuckoo, Skylark, Yellowhammer, Garden Warbler and Lesser Whitethroat.

All location information will be provided upon booking.
